Prospect Researcher

The Public Theater is seeking a Prospect Researcher to support the information needs of the Development team. The Prospect Research will be responsible for preparing profiles, verifying research data, providing proactive research, and analyzing data on individual constituents of interest to The Public Theater.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Senior Director of Development the Prospect Researcher will prepare prospect research profiles for potential and identified major gift and annual gift prospects for The Public Theater.
  • Conduct high-level research on individuals using a wide variety of biographical, organizational, and financial sources, including state-of-the-art online database services, Internet websites, library and government sources and other external sources of public information to create research profiles.
  • Analyze and synthesize accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and connections to The Public Theater.
  • Recommend developing and implementing further research strategies to assist with the development of cultivation and solicitation plans.
  • Oversee the contact and internal giving reports for potential new prospects for major and annual fund giving.
  • Prepare prospect reports and assist the Development Department in preparing giving and major gift tracking reports.
  • Maintain prospect research fields of data in the Tessitura database.
  • Through professional development, keep up to date with effective prospect research and prospect management techniques as well as trends in the prospect research profession and the advancement/fundraising field.
  • Maintain policies and procedures supporting best practices, ethical and professional research standards, leveraging technology, data integrity and data security.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or 5 years of experience in lieu of education requirement
  • At least three to six years of experience in a non-profit
  • One to three years’ experience in prospect research, and experience with fundraising
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity and comfort in the use of the Tessitura database
  • Excellent spelling and grammar skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of donor types and an understanding of fundraising processes, or cycles of engagement: identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; or a desire to learn this process.
  • Willingness to work within a well-established collaborative team.
  • Must have excellent critical thinking skills, be detail oriented, show eagerness toward prospect research.
