Chitra Ganesh Studio is seeking an experienced, organized, and dependable Studio Assistant who can manage the administrative aspects of a contemporary art studio. Applicant must have proven administrative experience, be comfortable under pressure from ongoing exhibition deadlines, and be able to work efficiently and independently. Applicant should also be an excellent communicator, someone who takes initiative, and who is willing to get their hands dirty and assist with unfinished works as needed. While this is primarily an administrative position, the ideal candidate will also have experience in a painting studio, have basic sewing skills and color theory, and enough understanding of materials and processes to be a resourceful and creative problem solver in the studio.

Responsibilities include:
- Support artist by managing studio administration and email correspondence
- Coordinate all administrative aspects of upcoming shows with galleries and museums
- Edit artist statements, press releases and conduct research as needed
- Write and apply for grants
- Order materials and manage outside vendors/fabricators as needed
- Hire and train interns and freelancers as needed
- Light record keeping and bill-pay
- Maintain basic inventory of artworks, tracking incoming and outgoing work
- Develop and maintain systems for tracking project production & costs
- Manage images and press as needed
- Update and manage website and Instagram

Experience & skills:
- The ideal candidate has several years of experience working in an established artist’s studio or contemporary art gallery
- Proficiency with MacOS X, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic creative software such as Photoshop, and iMovie. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
- Ability to edit and/or write artist statements, press releases, grants, and media communications to/from galleries, institutions, and publications
- Past experience with artistic grant writing is ideal
- A valid New York State drivers license and confidence driving in NYC

The position is 3 days per week, 6 hours per day, working remotely (for the foreseeable future). Hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm but there can be some flexibility with these hours and days. Pay is hourly and is commensurate with experience.
