Associate Music Director/Accompanist

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University invites applicants for a full-time (9 month) Associate Music Director/Accompanist position, starting fall 2020. This is a nontenure line Program Faculty position, working with the Music Director in sharing responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to:

• Music direction of one departmental production yearly
• Music direction of new musical commissions and/or workshops
• Accompanying musical theatre classes, production rehearsals, senior showcase rehearsals, class finals, special projects, master classes, and on-campus auditions (for student recruitment, departmental productions, and professional companies)
• Teaching one class/semester in area of expertise
• Weekly private coaching sessions
• Aid in building student audition book repertoire.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
• Demonstrated proficiency in accompanying
• Demonstrated proficiency in conducting
• Demonstrated proficiency in vocal coaching
• Extensive professional experience in musical direction

Preferred Qualifications:
• Terminal degree in music or related field
• Experience teaching at the collegiate level
• New York and/or national touring credits
• Proficiency in arranging and/or orchestration
• Exceptional communication skills
• Strong collaborative skills
• Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations and inclusive excellence
