COVERS: Music, Migration, and Memory of the Korean Diaspora

Thursday, July 23, 2026
6:30 – 9PM

Join COVERS BY MP3 for an evening of music, memory, and intergenerational storytelling centered around the music that carried communities as they built new homes across the diaspora.

Through photography, film, performance, and participatory installations, COVERS explores how music becomes a vessel for memory, holding stories of migration, family, belonging, and home across generations. The evening will feature live performances of songs shared through the project, a sneak peek at participant documentaries, and a presentation of recreated album cover portraits. In these photographs, participants step into the place of the original artists, reimagining iconic album covers through the lens of migration, family history, and personal memory. Together, these images form a visual playlist of the music that shaped the Korean diaspora. Guests are invited to explore the COVERS album cover gallery, view selections from Cover Collage & Memory Mixtape community workshops, and contribute their own songs and stories through interactive installations. Flip through cassette-inspired zines, pose in the community photobooth, enjoy food and drinks, and create a miniature CD keychain programmed with your own “home song” to take with you.
