The second episode of this season’s Queens Memory Podcast, titled “Halmoni’s Kimchee,” by Heidi Shin has been nominated as a finalist in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion category of the inaugural Signal Awards.

As a Signal Finalist, this episode was selected out of nearly 1,700 entries. A panel of judges will choose the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Signal Award winners, and the public will vote on the Signal Listener’s Choice Award.

Vote for this episode for the Listener’s Choice Award by Thursday, December 22. Winners will be announced on January 10, 2023.

In “Halmoni’s Kimchee,” we explore the theme of memory through the story of two sisters – Soojin and Eugina, who rode the wave of immigration from Korea to Queens in the 1980s. They landed in their halmoni’s – that is, their grandmother’s – kitchen.

Listen to this episode on the Queens Memory website in English or Korean. The entire third season is also available to stream on all podcast platforms, so don’t forget to queue it up for the holidays!
