This eight-month fellowship at one of New York’s foremost non-profit interdisciplinary arts spaces provides the opportunity to work closely with The Kitchen’s curatorial staff as well as with a wide range of performing and visual artists. Founded in the early 1970s, The Kitchen supports and presents artists at all stages of their career working in the areas of video, dance, music, performance art, visual arts, and literature. This fellowship includes a $7,500 stipend and requires a time commitment of 16 hours per week, beginning in September and ending in May. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

The Kitchen encourages applications from early career arts professionals who have a broad interest in experimental approaches to contemporary art practice across the disciplines. Our 2021–22 season will be focused on residencies that result in performances and exhibitions at both The Kitchen’s Chelsea space and at off-site locations. The Curatorial Fellow works with Kitchen curators on all phases of the exhibition and performance process, including liaising with artists, conducting archival research for projects, and assisting with texts for grant applications and communications. They will also manage and contribute to online programming such as Video Viewing Room and Kitchen Magazine, and assist with public programs. The Curatorial Fellow develops crucial experience interacting with key staff in the production, development, and communications departments at the institution.

While much of the work can be done remotely, we recommend that the 2021–22 Fellow be based in NYC to be able to experience the production of exhibitions and performances in-person as the safety protocols for COVID-19 allow.
