JOB DESCRIPTION: REGISTRAR
Mika Tajima’s Studio (Brooklyn, NY) is seeking a full time Registrar to start mid June - early July

RESPONSIBILITIES
Arrange and manage logistics with shipping companies, galleries, museums and institutions (local, national, international)
Ensure proper packing methods and materials are used, and research innovative solutions for unusual or new materials / artworks
Administrative paperwork associated with artwork leaving/entering the studio (loan forms, pro formas, consignments, certificates of authenticity, etc)
Condition reports of work leaving/entering the studio or fabricators’ facilities—registrar will be the final person to condition artworks and maintain quality control
Maintain inventory record management (physical and digital)

— process, label and file artwork images

— continually update studio database

— work with production team on organization and database to keep up-to-date on works in progress

— manage off-site storage

— archive press and update website

Arrange and manage photography of finished artworks

Handle image requests from galleries, writers, press and institutions (including rights and reproduction requests for publications) and ensure accuracy of captions and relevant information

Create applications for grants and fellowships

HOURS: Monday - Friday, 10a - 5p, with some flexibility for shipments

HOURLY RATE: starting at $38/hour, full-time benefits include healthcare, dental and vision, PTO, and 401k after 1 year of employment

Requirements

The studio is fast paced and ever-changing, and our ideal candidate is self-motivated, responsible, and efficient, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must be highly detail-oriented, very organized and methodical, with the ability to maintain a long-term view of all projects while prioritizing day-to-day details. Previous registrar experience at galleries, institutions and/or artist’ studios required. Proficiency with Adobe Suite and G Suite a must, experience with Trello and Art-Record (or other artwork databases) a plus. Drivers license a plus. Experience cooking or enjoying food is also a plus (we cook lunch as a group at the studio). Must love dogs :-)
