The Queens Museum seeks an experienced Public Art Project Manager (PAPM) to deliver up to five large-scale permanent art commissions as part of a new building currently in development in Queens. The commissions will be part of the QM’s 50th Anniversary in 2022.

The PAPM will work closely with the Executive Director and QM team, artists, and partners to manage the production and installation of new commissions, starting with the development of each artist’s proposal and an assessment of feasibility. They will also work with the artists and QM team to develop educational initiatives and public programs related to each work. The candidate must have experience of curating and delivering large scale art commissions in public settings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Project Management
* Manage relationships and communications with artists, stakeholders, and partners to support and coordinate all aspects of the commissions.
* Attend and organize meetings as needed
* Work with partners to assess proposals and undertake feasibility studies
* Manage multiple timelines and projects simultaneously ensuring that all deadlines are met and that projects are delivered within agreed budgets
* Procure estimates; research and source materials; and negotiate with vendors as needed
* Develop and manage project budgets and expenditure reports in collaboration with partners and artists
* Maintain effective communication with all project partners and QM teams
* Create installation plans; draft contracts, waivers, and permit applications
* Supervise external contractors where required
* Organize and coordinate the transport of artworks in and out of each site location, including arrangements for shipping, delivery, storage, packing and unpacking, crating, and collection
* Supervise condition checks of works when production is complete and when the artworks arrive in their final location.
* Finalize terms with partners and artists as they relate to rights and reproduction, resale, and upkeep
* Schedule and deliver professional photographs of the artworks in-situ for partners and artists

Health and Safety
* Ensure correct Health and Safety procedures are in place for the display of artworks and their installation, including the management of contractors
* Ensure that the artworks and the installation adhere to all public liability insurance requirements
* Develop a guide for long-term care, including monitoring and emergency procedures policy, for each art commission; compile a list of conservators/consultants related to each artwork for partners to keep on-file
* Carry out risk assessments for the installations
* Prepare emergency recovery plans for each art commission

Confidentiality
* Keep confidential all Intellectual Property Rights, trade secrets, business information, product and artwork designs, business contacts, budgets and financial information, technical or commercial information, marketing and press plans disclosed relating to the commissions
* Keep all artwork, project plans, and product information confidential from the public, unless expressly permitted to do so by the Queens Museum. This relates to all forms of communication, including social media.
