Organization Description:
Founded in 2003, The Tank is a multi-disciplinary non-profit arts presenter and producer, which provides a home to emerging artists working across all disciplines, including theater, comedy, dance, film, music, puppetry, and storytelling. Led by Artistic Director Meghan Finn, Director of Artistic Development Johnny G. Lloyd, and Managing Producer Molly FitzMaurice, The Tank champions emerging artists engaged in the pursuit of new ideas and forms of expression. In doing so the company removes the economic barriers from the creation of new work for artists launching their careers and experimenting within their art form. From the company’s home with two theaters on 36th Street, The Tank serves over 2,500 artists every year, presents over 1,000 performances, and welcomes 36,000 audience members annually. The company fully produces a curated season of 13-18 theatrical World or New York premieres each season.

Position Overview:
The Tank is seeking a full-time Programming Associate. The Tank’s air traffic controller, this role is key to our ability to manage relationships and workflows from artists to funders, producing partners to audience members. The Programming Associate: manages The Attic, The Tank’s sixth floor rehearsal spaces; administratively supports The Tank’s development and fundraising efforts; and coordinates internal schedules.

The ideal candidate feels energized by collaboration and dialogue but also thrives working independently to project manage multiple initiatives. They love to optimize efficient systems and plow through a check-list. Passionate about communication, details, and follow-through, they are excited to support emerging artists as part of a small, dynamic team. The Tank operates on a shared leadership model, and this position reports to the Managing Producer, Artistic Director, and Director of Artistic Development.

Responsibilities:
Manage The Attic, The Tank’s new sixth floor rehearsal spaces:
Field rental requests and questions.
Maintain The Attic space calendar.
Liaise with artists and groups using the space.
Ensure rental contract compliance, including tracking and processing rental fees.
Support The Tank’s development and fundraising efforts:
Project manage institutional development: track grants and development calendar, assist with the submission of grants, send grant acknowledgement letters to funders, and other responsibilities in consultation with Tank leadership.
Attend bi-weekly development meetings with leadership and development consultant.
Track individual giving and ensure acknowledgement of significant gifts.
Support planning and production of The Tank’s annual gala.
Coordinate internal calendars:
Support Tank staff in coordinating and streamlining scheduling as it arises, including but not limited to:
Assist with scheduling as needed, including liaising with artists.
Schedule box office staff and maintain box office calendar.
Recruit and schedule box office and concessions volunteers.
With Technical Manager, schedule on-call and livestream operators.
With Managing Producer, build Tank intern schedules.
Participate in our team as a member of The Tank full-time staff:
Actively participate in The Tank’s ongoing practice to make The Tank an explicitly anti-racist and anti-oppressive organization and a welcoming, generative space.
Steward The Tank as a home for emerging artists, embodying our mission and values, including kindness, sense of humor, and all-hands-on-deck attitude.
Actively participate in weekly all-staff meetings and individual weekly and quarterly check-ins.
Support The Tank’s internship program, training and supervising Tank interns to participate in and learn about programming a small nonprofit performing arts organization.
Alongside Tank staff, contribute to maintenance of our spaces.
Develop proficiency in our platforms, including Google Suite, AudienceView Professional (formerly ovationtix), Squarespace, social media.

This is a full-time, entry level position with a starting salary of $40,000. Hours are primarily weekday, 10am-6pm office hours with occasional evening and weekend hours surrounding significant events. While we can accommodate some hybrid flexibility, this is an on-site position. The Tank contributes 50% of health insurance. Flexible paid vacation, in addition to 15 paid nationally observed holidays.
