Position Overview
The Lead Teacher - Publications is a seasoned teacher with experience designing, planning, and implementing high quality literary arts programming. This is someone with excellent communication and project management skills who is comfortable working independently as well as in a team setting.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Lead Teacher performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to the following:
Co-teaches two after school publishing programs (Young Emerging Authors and Publishing Workshop)
Teaches in and supports publishing in our In-School Residency program
Teaches two to three summer camps
Supports Field Trip program, and other customized workshops as needed
Co-leads program staff training with Program Director, Education Manager, and the Lead Teacher of Young Writers & Leaders
Develops program writing and publishing curricula
Supports Young Emerging Authors and Publishing Workshop program administration
Supports the annual writing contest, communicating with young writers and families
Supports book production, including managing design and editing of four to six book projects each year
Supports book launch events
Participates in program quality assessment as determined by the Program Director
Assists Program Director with program strategy and communication
Working Conditions
A Telling Room’s Lead Teacher will work in office and classroom environments. The mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces including the outdoors/indoors for camps, residencies, and field trips.
A Telling Room Lead Teacher will work a 35-hour workweek but may be required to work some evenings and weekends to monitor program activities or participate in organization-hosted events.
A Telling Room Lead Teacher may schedule their 35-hour week in accordance with the TR’s Flex-Time Policy.

Requirements
Required:
Experience
2 years of relevant experience in a related field, such as Arts Education, Writing, and Publishing
2 years of experience working with youth in an educational setting
Computer Skills
Proficient in Google suite and Microsoft Word
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
Demonstrated success in youth program management
Demonstrated ability in practicing and teaching creative writing
Demonstrated ability to plan and execute events
Demonstrated ability to manage long-term, complex projects, including or similar to book production
Preferred:
Experience
- 4 years of relevant experience that includes significant supervisory and administrative experience
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
Demonstrated ability in copy editing and proofreading, with knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style
Demonstrated understanding of best practices for youth development
