LAUNCH:LA - L.A. Dance Project’s newly redesigned artist residency program is ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Please visit http://ladanceproject.org/residencies for more details!

Residency Components:

  • Designed for Los Angeles based early-career, dance-centered artists. Applicants from all backgrounds and abilities are encouraged to apply, particularly those from groups historically underrepresented in the space. Those currently enrolled in college or university are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals for multi-disciplinary collaborative projects that combine dance with technology, visual art, music, or other mediums of artistic expression.
  • The program supports 2 projects in their initial stages of development. Proposed projects should not have been previously performed or presented.
  • The program provides selected artists with 3 weeks to dive into a generative process that will culminate in the presentation of the new work in 4 fully-produced public performances in LADP’s theater space.
  • The residency will take place from January 17, 2022 - February 6, 2022. The final week of the residency will include 4 public performances of the artists’ newly created work.

Selected Participants Receive:

  • Selected artists will receive 3 full weeks of rehearsal space—totaling over 100 hours—in LADP’s 2245 studios.
  • A stipend of $3,000 for the artist plus a $3,000 production stipend to be used at the artist’s discretion to compensate dancers and collaborators* and any other production needs such as scenic, costume, sound, and lighting design.
  • The opportunity to present their new work in 4 fully produced, shared-bill performances that will be hosted and promoted by L.A. Dance Project.

*Due to the fluid nature of health and safety guidelines surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, proposed projects will be limited to a total of 10 people sharing studio space at any given time. As of the writing of these guidelines, proof of vaccination is required and all participants are to be masked whenever inside of the 2245 building, including during rehearsals. Capacity for live performances will be determined at a date closer to the residency to ensure compliance with all public health guidelines. These health and safety protocols are subject to change.

Requirements

Must be a resident of Los Angeles who is in the early stages of their career. Those currently enrolled in college or university are not eligible to apply.
