Position Classification: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt (Hourly), Benefits-eligible

Worksite location: Queens Museum (Corona, New York)

Hybrid work model: Part-time remote work; Attendance is required onsite at the QM 2-3 days per week

QM Salary Band: D2 - Coordinator

Salary Range: $23.77 per hour - $25.62 per hour

Management classification: Non-Supervisory

Job Description:

The Queens Museum seeks a creative Graphic Designer with polished design production skills experienced in working in highly collaborative team settings. As a key producer on the Communications team, the Graphic Designer will create engaging visual assets for a broad range of applications including, web, social media, e-blasts, print and gallery signage. The Designer works in collaboration with all QM departments to deliver the Museum’s overall communications and outreach strategy by producing high quality content consistent with the museum’s visual identity, mission, and values.

The Graphic Designer will play an essential role in implementing the Museum’s “refreshed” brand identity, which will launch in spring 2022.

Successful candidates will be accomplished designers with adept skills in Adobe Creative Suite applications and will possess efficient production processes, and a keen eye for current design trends. Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Implement and maintain QM’s “refreshed” identity guidelines for institutional brand consistency, with a solid understanding of brand strategy and design system
  • Produce compelling visual assets for the museum’s digital channels
  • Design and produce the Museum’s print and promotional materials, including exhibition brochures, flyers, internal documents, and signage
  • Support the overall strategic focus of the museum’s digital presence
  • Collaborate with Queens Museum team members, artists, educators and programmers to develop and deliver content and ensure a consistent, integrated visual identity
  • Improve and develop existing digital initiatives
  • Collaborate with external consultants and vendors to execute production of print branding assets
  • Use existing templates to design and implement wayfinding and didactic gallery signage
  • Create motion graphics and video, and eager to develop these skills
  • Assist in the implementation of best accessibility practices across all communications assets
  • Support the Assistant Director of Communications in managing and mentorship of communications interns
  • Maintain the organization of the Communications team assets

Qualifications:

  • Advanced digital design skills including fonts, color palettes, composition, and sizing.
  • Prior production experience including web, social media, print and signage
  • Proven experience of producing and disseminating dynamic digital content
  • Professional design portfolio or professional website
  • Demonstrated relevant experience working with varied forms of digital content across web and social media platforms
  • Understanding of digital audience needs and expectations
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills and the ability to oversee projects from conception to delivery
  • A great eye for shifting trends in the field of design and visual culture
  • Excellent attention to detail, typography, typesetting and font; knowledge of digital print vs. offset print

Requirements:

  • (2-3 years) Prior work experience in a Design or Digital producing role
  • Educational background in Design, Visual Communications Technology and/or its work experience equivalent
  • Adept skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, AfterEffects, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS is a plus
  • Photography and videography skills are a plus
