Film Poster Contest - Von Männlichen Musen

The filmmaking team behind the upcoming short film Von Männlichen Musen is thrilled to welcome New York City artists to participate in their poster contest, as they search for an enthusiastic visionary to create an original poster.

Von Männlichen Musen is a 16-minute psychological comedy about artists and muses, written and directed by Brooklyn-based filmmaker Allegra Oxborough, and co-produced by Eldest Daughter’s Rafaela Sanchez. As a 2025 NYSCA grantee, the project aims to provide a platform for local artists to introduce their work to a wider audience, while contributing to the promotion of Von Männlichen Musen with an original design featured on the film’s poster.

Themes/Synopsis:

Von Männlichen Musen is a dark psychological comedy set in the opulent world of high art that takes some wickedly delicious turns. The story follows Hector, who feels way over his head when he attends the art show of his girlfriend Avery’s mother, and is shocked to discover a larger-than-life nude portrait of Avery’s ex-boyfriend hovering above him — awkward!

Requirements

All participants must live and/or attend a college or university in one of the five boroughs.

Contest Rules:

• The artist’s design concept must be completely their own work. Proof of plagiarism will result in termination from the contest.
• The artist must be a resident of New York City and work and/or attend a college or university in one of the five boroughs.
• No more than two artists may collaborate on one submission. If the winning poster was designed by two artists, the $800 fee will be divided evenly between both contestants ($400 each).
• The artist acknowledges they are submitting a design concept that will be refined and subject to modifications at the discretion of the director and producers of Von Männlichen Musen.

The client reserves the right to make modifications to the artist’s work while ensuring the artist’s name is credited on any social media and other platforms while promoting the film.
