Apex serves approximately 2,500 students annually from kindergarten through their post-secondary years. They provide children and young adults with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors and role models.
Position Summary
Apex’s Elementary Enrichment Department addresses the educational, social, and emotional needs of elementary students through out-of-school enrichment programs, family nights, and community events. Sessions take place on Saturdays from October to May. The Elementary Department also offers summer programming during July to August. These programs are run by staff with support from volunteers.
The Manager will oversee Saturday Elementary Explorers Program (third to fifth grade), held at Apex’s Sunset Park site, in addition to all other programming that serves students and families enrolled in the Elementary Enrichment programs. This position will report to the Associate Director of Elementary Programs.

Responsibilites
Program Management (50%)
- Oversee all aspects of Brooklyn Elementary Explorers program including program design, curriculum development, session facilitation, and supervision of program volunteers;
- Provide supervision and ongoing support for the Brooklyn Elementary Program Coordinator and Part-Time Facilitators;
- Provide weekly on-site supervision and support at all scheduled Saturday sessions;
- Collaborate with the Mental Health Services department to support Elementary youth on the Mental Health Services caseload;
- Support collection and analysis of program data, including tracking enrollment and attendance, and implementing surveys to students and volunteers for feedback, and ensuring timely, accurate entry of data into Salesforce;
- Proactively share programmatic feedback and contribute to ideas for program roadmap;
Volunteer Management (25%)
- Oversee the placement, training and management of volunteers to ensure quality interactions between volunteers and youth with the support of other Program Managers;
- Along with the team, interview prospective volunteers and support volunteer intake;
- Communicate with volunteers about session logistics and provide feedback on their participation/performance;
- Support the volunteer recruitment process, including occasionally leading volunteer recruitment events.
Partnerships & Events (20%)
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with partner schools and organizations;
- Recruit and enroll youth from partner schools and organizations into programming;
- Oversee all communication and support for students/families, volunteers, partner schools, and external facilitators;
- Lead and occasionally support additional Elementary programming, such as Break Programming and Summer Camp, and collaborate with other Elementary program staff;
- Assist with the planning for and occasionally run Elementary community events, including Family Nights, field trips, and the annual Holiday Party, Book Fair, and Field Day;
- Liaise with Development department for fundraising needs, including collaborating with corporate partners;
Other Duties (5%)
- Support the tracking and maintenance of team tools, including the calendar and budget;
- Support and collaborate with other Elementary Program Managers where needed;
- Attend all program and leadership meetings, as necessary
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
- BA or BS preferred
- Three to five years experience working with youth preferred;
- Program management experience preferred;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Strong ability and interest in building community and genuine relationships;
- Proactive nature and self-starter, ability to problem-solve autonomously;
- Enjoys working closely with a team, as well as independently;
- Ability to work on Saturdays, and take Sunday-Monday as the weekend
- Spoken fluency in Mandarin and written competency in Chinese preferred but not required.
Salary range: The salary range for this position is $67,275 – $75,000 depending on experience.
