Role: Editorial & Content Producer (Text and Magazine)
Type: Core Collaborator, credit based
Location: Remote (US / Europe / Asia time zones welcome)
Language: Fluent English required, Chinese a strong plus
ELSEHERE is an international art label and culture platform. ELSEHERE produces, presents, and preserves works that expand the edges of contemporary expression across visual, kinetic, performative, and digital forms. Through a curatorial network across the United States, Europe, and Asia, ELSEHERE is building an artist centered ecosystem where diverse practices can move, be documented, and enter into dialogue across borders.
About the Role:
- ELSEHERE is developing a digital and print based publishing line: online features, seasonal digital issues, and periodic print magazines that bring together images, texts, and research around contemporary practices.
- The Editorial & Layout Designer will help define how ELSEHERE reads and feels on the page and on screen.
- This is the editorial engine that will give ELSEHERE its language and memory.
If you:
- Read and think across contemporary art, performance, and digital culture
- Enjoy shaping ideas into clear, precise, elegant text
- Want to work at the intersection of editorial writing, curation, and publishing
- Are looking for serious, long term editorial credits tied to international artists and institutions then this role is designed for you.
What you will do: You will work directly with ELSEHERE’s Founder to develop and maintain the textual side of the platform.
Key Responsibilities:
Editorial and Magazine Content:
- Draft and edit feature texts for the ELSEHERE International Artist Catalog
- Co develop themes and structures for digital issues, quarterly or annual magazines
- Assist in shaping editorial sections for the website and online journal
- Help translate research, concepts, and practice into accessible yet rigorous language
Web and Platform Writing:
- Write and refine website copy for projects, artists, and programs
- Craft long form and short form texts for digital publishing
- Prepare bilingual versions of key texts where possible, together with Chinese language support
Artist and Writer Features:
- Help identify and invite artists and writers whose work aligns with ELSEHERE
- Draft interview questions, email correspondence, and editorial briefs
- Prepare artist profiles, introductions, and framing texts for publication
Content Structure and Archiving:
- Organize content calendars for online releases and thematic series
- Maintain text archives, version control, and documentation for each issue or series
- Support the transition from digital publishing to compiled print editions
Requirements
Ideally, you
- Have strong writing skills in English and can handle both conceptual and clear practical language
- Are interested in contemporary art, performance, moving image, theory, or cultural studies
- Can move comfortably between poetic sensitivity and editorial clarity
- Are detail oriented and care about structure, tone, and consistency
- Are curious about how to frame artists, practices, and projects for international readers
- Feel excited by the idea of helping define the voice of a new label from its first chapter
Backgrounds that may fit well include: art history, performance studies, cultural studies, media studies, comparative literature, philosophy and related fields. Emerging professionals are very welcome.
Fluency in Chinese is a strong plus, but not required for all tasks. There may also be collaboration with translators or bilingual team members.
Collaboration and Benefits: This is a credit based, unpaid collaboration in the founding phase of ELSEHERE.
In return, ELSEHERE offers:
- Official bilingual editorial credit as Editorial and Content Producer on projects you contribute to
- Substantial portfolio pieces. Long form articles, artist features, and magazine sections that can be cited in applications to institutions, residencies, and graduate programs
- The possibility of internship or independent study confirmation letters, where universities accept such placements
- Priority consideration for future paid editorial, curatorial, or publication roles as ELSEHERE expands
- Direct editorial collaboration with the Founder and involvement in building an international editorial framework from the beginning
- This role is suited to someone who wants real editorial responsibility early, and who sees ELSEHERE as a long term reference in their professional and academic trajectory.
