The Deputy Director occupies a critical leadership role in Museum Hue. Working closely with and reporting to the executive director, they will oversee development, communications, operations, and overall administrative management, including implementing strategic objectives and organizational initiatives. The Deputy Director works collaboratively with the staff to promote a highly functional, interactive, and dynamic team. They actively identify and increase efficiencies within workflow on a continual basis. This position motivates all members of the staff and models effective management skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the executive director in efforts to expand creative capacity;
  • Oversee and assist in developing/facilitating programs for members and general public;
  • Oversee the coordination of Museum Hue’s strategic planning;
  • Direct policies and procedures related to operations and leading efforts for process improvements and performance enhancement throughout the organization;
  • Manage the budget for activities in collaboration with the executive director, program and project manager to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency;
  • Manage the production of financial reports, including monthly financial statements. Reforecast annual budget as required;
  • Oversee the preparation of budgets for approval, including those for funding and implementation of programs. (Delegates management of sections of the budget to appropriate staff members);
  • Review annual audit and income/expenses. Supervise preparation of the 990 tax return;
  • Work with the executive director to create annual and long-term fundraising goals that support the operating and program expenditure budgets;
  • Evaluate performance of staff in meeting objectives and determine areas of potential growth and improvement;
  • Offer vision and leadership for the HueArts and HueMuseums initiatives as they relate to administrative management and communications;
  • Represent the executive director at programs and events as necessary;
  • Write compelling copy for press release, marketing, fundraising, etc as required;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years experience as a museum leader; experience in the arts, philanthropic, non-profit, or higher-education organization preferred;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, presence and credibility to serve as an effective spokesperson when necessary;
  • Familiarity with the New York arts and cultural landscape;
  • Familiarity with the overall US arts and cultural landscape;
  • Interest in Black, Indigenous, and other people of color’s arts and culture;
  • Has access to technology to work remotely and can also collect local assets in-person as needed in accordance with COVID-safe policies;
  • Can meet bi-weekly for in-person meetings in New York City
  • Professional interpersonal communication skills, written, oral, and over Zoom;
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving, and interpreting data skills;
  • Well-organized, attentive to details, and goal-oriented;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite, Zoom, and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter);
  • Enjoys working in teams and collaborating; and has a good sense of humor.

Additional Information:

  • This position works a 40-hour workweek, generally Monday through Friday.
  • Requires travel, approximately 5% of working time.
  • Reports directly to Museum Hue’s Executive Director.
  • Includes a benefits package.
  • Classified as Full Time employment.
  • Compensation is $85,000 annually.

Education:

Requirements Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in Non-Profit Arts Administration, Art History, Marketing, Communications, or related field required
