Under the leadership of its highly regarded Executive Director, Gary Garrido Schneider, GFS is poised for a chapter of transformation, exciting growth, and development.
The Chief Audience Officer (“CAO”) is a new role explicitly designed to build audience diversity and engagement at a local, regional, national and international level. The CAO will lead the Curatorial, Education and Marketing teams in the development of an institution-wide positioning and engagement strategy aimed at identifying, engaging, and captivating the audience of the future. Will lead/establish/foster a transparent, collaborative and, audience-centric planning process for exhibitions and program development.
In addition to overseeing a team of 10 across the Curatorial, Education and Marketing departments, the CAO will be a strategic partner to the Executive Director and the Board of as they build a vision for the future. This vision will include a bold value proposition that allows for increased accessibility and relevance, a culture shift that encourages creative thinking and experimentation, and developing a 21st-century engagement plan to diversify GFS’s audience and visitors.
The CAO will play a critical role in prioritizing equity and inclusion initiatives both within Grounds for Sculpture and the broader arts community.
This leadership will span GFS’s efforts to diversify its audience and workforce, to strategies that create a pipeline for equitable leadership within the field, to investing in programming and strategies that promote access and inclusion in all communities it serves. The CAO will bring expertise, an innovative and open mindset, and a commitment to inclusive practice in their approach. The position will serve on the board and staff DEI Task Force, exerting organization-wide and systemic influence on a process that will drive the evolution of the organization. Additionally, the CAO will work across the organization to further position GFS as an important, relevant, and impactful anchor institution worthy of philanthropic support, investment and, collaboration across the region and the arts sector more broadly.
