Call for Fall Teaching Artists for School Programs at Brooklyn Arts Council

Part time / $85 hourly / Brooklyn Arts Council / Brooklyn, NY

Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) is accepting applications for school program Teaching Artists (TA) for the 2024-2025 school year!

BAC hosts programming at schools throughout Brooklyn, primarily November-June, both after school and during school hours. Applicants do not need to live in Brooklyn but must have the ability to travel to Brooklyn. Applicants living in Brooklyn districts 18 & 20 are highly encouraged to apply. BAC TA’s can expect an average of 1-3 residencies (on average, 1.5-2.5 hours per week for 12 weeks per residency) per school year depending on programming needs. In addition to teaching hours, each residency includes paid planning and professional development hours. All hours are currently billed at $85/hour. BAC TA’s have access to Materials for the Arts and NYC Arts in Education Roundtable events.

Our programming mediums include Theater & Performance, Music, General Dance, Global Dance, Visual Arts, Literary Arts, Digital Media, and STEAM. They serve students that are English Language Learners and in D75 programs. They primarily serve K-8th grade students but they do also serve a smaller percentage of high school students.

Requirements

Desired Applicants are TA’s that:

• Are legally eligible to work in the United States and can provide current and complete documentation for work.
  
• Can teach in English AND another language, particularly Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Ukrainian
  
• Have experience with Social Emotional Learning, Culturally Responsive Education, Trauma Informed Teaching, and Abolitionist Focused Education
• Have experience teaching English Language Learners and neurodiverse, disabled, and D75 cohorts
• May or may not have experience teaching STEAM but are interested to learn more about how to
• Have availability Monday’s - Friday’s, November – June, for in school programming (8am-3pm) and/or after school programming (2pm-5pm)
• Can teach multiple arts disciplines or specialties within a discipline

Represent the populations of students that they are serving. They serve students of the following identities and seek to add TA’s to our roster that identify similarly:

• Black, Hispanic, and Asian students
  
• LGBTQ+ students
• Immigrant students
• Disabled and neurodiverse students

While they are accepting applications from TAs that can teach any medium in Literary Arts, Dance, Theatre, Music, Visual Arts, & Digital Media, they are particularly looking for TAs who can teaching the following specialties:

• Global Dance - Hula, Flamenco, African dance, Afro-Caribbean dance, Irish step dance, Mexican dance, Indian dance, Capoeira, etc
• Visual Arts - mosaics, jewelry making, sculpture, mural, comic book creation
• Music - music theory, songwriting, instrumentalists
• Digital Media - digital filmmaking, digital photography, digital illustration, animation, game design
• TAs that have experience with Dungeons & Dragons or improvisation and storytelling based role playing games

You can expect to provide a resume or CV, 1-3 samples of your artistic work, a sample lesson plan, and 3 references who can speak about your arts education work

After your application is submitted, applicants moving forward will receive an email to schedule teaching demo sessions at the BAC Office in DUMBO, Brooklyn.
