The Peterborough Players, a 91-year-old professional theatre (AEA CORST “ZZ”) located in southern New Hampshire, is seeking applicants for the position of ARTISTIC DIRECTOR.

The theatre produces a traditional summer season of five to seven plays and often one musical, operating on a budget of slightly over one million dollars. The Players has presented a short “winter season” in its year round facility in past years.

The Artistic Director conceptualizes, articulates, and implements artistic policy and procedures while collaborating with the Managing Director to insure the financial stability of the institution. The Artistic Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees alongside the Managing Director and works with the Board to ensure the programmatic and operational integrity, sustainability and excellence of the Theatre. The Artistic Director attends meetings of the Board, providing reports, support and guidance as needed to ensure that decision-making is well-informed.

The Artistic Director is primarily responsible for the selection of the season of plays and engaging artistic staff, including directors, designers, and actors and interns; oversees all production areas and the Production Staff, including direct supervision of department heads: Production Manager, Stage Management, Guest Directors, Guest Designers, Musical Directors, etc. The Artistic Director is responsible with the Managing Director for developing and overseeing all production/artistic budgets. The Artistic Director in collaboration with the Managing Director oversees the intern education program and acts as mentor to the interns. The Artistic Director directs a minimum of two productions annually. Alongside the Managing Director, the Artistic Director serves as the public face of the theatre, plays an active role in community relations and the fund-raising activities of the organization.

Please note: The theatre is concurrently seeking applicants for the position of Managing Director. The search committee is open to considering applications from potential artistic director / managing director “teams”. Experience with the professional theatrical production process and 501©(3) organizations is required. We ask for a minimum commitment of three years. The Peterborough Players Theatre is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
