The Tony Award-winning Huntington Theatre Company has initiated a search for its next Artistic Director. The Huntington’s Board plans to identify its choice for the position and engage the successful candidate by the end of 2021 or early 2022.

The Huntington is Boston’s leading professional theatre and one of the region’s premier cultural assets. Since its founding in 1982, the Huntington has received over 150 Elliot Norton and Independent Reviewers of New England Awards, as well as the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre. In the past 39 years, the Huntington has played to an audience of 3.5 million, presented over 200 plays and served over 500,000 students, community members, and other cultural organizations.

The Huntington will offer an exceptional artistic and organizational leader the opportunity to partner with the Huntington’s Board, Managing Director, and senior management team to lead a nationally renowned theatre to its next level of artistic success and community impact. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated history of creating or curating work that exhibits the highest production standards and a rigorous commitment to engage audiences in ways that bring new understanding to contemporary life and our common humanity. They will be passionate about engaging the community and supporting community education while centering DEIA and anti-racism in all aspects of the Huntington’s culture, programming and organizational initiatives. The Board seeks candidates with vision, passion, and commitment. The successful candidate will be an effective representative of the theatre and the arts more broadly. They will look forward to becoming a full-time resident of the Greater Boston area and to assuming an active leadership role within the company and throughout the community.
