A fireside chat with New York’s very own Akemi Kochiyama. Following the legacy of her grandmother, Yuri Kochiyama, Akemi is a scholar-activist and fundraising professional. Akemi currently serves as the Director of Advancement at Manhattan Country School, a progressive independent school with a mission-based commitment to social justice, diversity, and equality in education. At MCS, Akemi carries on her family’s legacy - supporting multicultural community-building and the continuous development of young activists and scholars.

Akemi is a graduate of Spelman College, a Doctoral candidate in the Ph.D Program in Cultural Anthropology at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and the parent of two teenagers, Leilani and Malia.
