Wang Guowei & Friends: Chinese Music for Erhu, Flute, Cello and Piano Quartet

Sunday, October 11, 2015
3:30 – 5PM

Re-inventing the sound and form of a traditional Chinese ensemble, the “Wang Guowei & Friends” concert features a East-West quartet of erhu (Chinese 2-string fiddle), flute, cello and piano. This un-orthodox instrumental coupling brings together the highly nuanced playing of erhu master musician and composer Wang Guowei with the rich timbre of instruments played by musicians trained in Western classical traditions. The program features new arrangements of traditional, folk and contemporary music all authored by Mr. Wang, including a new composition Kong to be premiered by the quartet. This is a first-ever concert devoted to a wide-ranging repertoire of Chinese music performed entirely by a quartet of Chinese and Western instruments.

Artists: Wang Guowei, erhu; Anna Urrey, flute; Michael Katz, cello; Javor Bracic, piano
