treya lam - "otherland: a seedling"
7 – 8:28PM
On October 26th, composer treya lam is joined by collaborators to present the final installment of “otherland: a seedling” - a multidisciplinary ritual created to process and heal through grief and loss and beckon in a new world.
Co-created with movement director Marie Lloyd Paspe and vocal director Sound Sovereign Brown: this work utilizes a chamber-folk song cycle, spoken word, movement and film to: process the loss of a parent or loved one; explore radical self-acceptance; explore the relationship between adoptees, diaspora and ancestry; and ultimately find collective healing.
“otherland” was commissioned by Joe’s Pub as part of our New York Voices program. New York Voices is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
