The Things They Carried: A Community Memory Archiving Workshop

Join Queens-based social practice artist EunWoo Nam for an interactive public art and community archiving workshop, “The Things They Carried.”
This special event, part of a project awarded the 2026 Queens Arts Fund New Work Grant, invites Sunnyside residents to participate in a living historical preservation effort.
What is this workshop about?
You all carry objects in our daily lives—a worn-out wallet, a lucky pen, a family photo, or a simple key. Have you ever considered the personal history hidden within these everyday items?
In this workshop, EunWoo Nam guides participants through a unique experience of storytelling and sound recording. You will be invited to:
Bring one small personal object that holds a memory for you.
Share the story behind your object in a supportive, small-group setting.
Have your story audio-recorded (optional) as part of a growing community sound archive.
By integrating public history with contemporary sound art, this project explores how individual narratives shape the collective identity of our neighborhood.
Who should attend?
This workshop is free and open to the general public. All ages are welcome, though recording participants should be able to share their story. No prior experience with art or archiving is necessary—just bring your memory and an object!
