The Show Can't Go On: Call to Invest in Our NY #WPAnow
12PM
Join us February 25th at 12 PM to tell Governor Cuomo: Tax the Rich, Support Artists, and Pass the Works Progress Administration Act.
Working-class artists are in trouble: Nearly all of New York’s working-class performing artists haven’t been able to work since Mid March of 2020. A broken and piecemeal unemployment insurance system has left cultural workers struggling to survive. 71% of musicians and DJs surveyed have lost three quarters or more of their income.
Only 11% of artists have received support from the federal PPP program and the Save Our Stages program will not guarantee one penny for music workers. Unemployed cultural workers are struggling to feed their families and keep a roof over their head.
The Governor must step up and support the performance artists that have enriched this state. Invest in Our New York and give us Jobs! Pass Senator May and Assembly Member Fahy’s WPA Act and Tax the Rich to fund programs for artists.
