The National Arts Club Honors Anna Sui with the Medal of Honor for Fashion

Anna Sui is one of New York’s most beloved and accomplished fashion designers, known for taking inspiration from music, books, movies, history, art and photography to inspire her rock-and-roll romantic fashion label.
Anna Sui’s first fashion show in 1991 earned her international acclaim. She was awarded the CFDA Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent in 1993, and the prestigious Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.
In the spring of 2017, a retrospective exhibition of her work opened at the Fashion and Textiles Museum in London. The World of Anna Sui traveled to Tokyo in the summer of 2018, and just ended a run in New York at The Museum of Arts and Design. The exhibit will next travel next to Seattle WA, Charlotte NC, and three cities in China. The exhibition displays her namesake products in rooms outfitted like her boutiques with Victorian furniture, purple walls, papier mache dollyheads, rockn’roll posters, red floors and the magic of Anna Sui’s world.
The speakers for the evening will be William Ivey Long, Costume Designer and National Arts Club Medal of Honor Recipient; and Barbara Gifford, Assistant Curator at The Museum of Arts and Design.
