The Ambulant Image: Artist Talk with Myong Hi Kim
Gallery Hyundai New York Project Space cordially invites you to an artist talk with Myong Hi Kim on March 12 at 1 PM, featuring an exclusive screening of scenes from Kim’s upcoming documentary, a presentation by the artist on her process, followed by a conversation with the gallery’s director Diana SeoHyung. This event serves as a preview of Kim’s upcoming solo exhibition at Gallery Hyundai in Seoul in May, and a contextual backdrop to “The Absent One” (March 12-April 25, 2026), a group exhibition on view in the New York project space that highlights the various manifestation of heritage in art by Korean artists working outside of the United States.
From drawings and oil pastel on chalkboard that Kim has become noted for, to landscapes and moving images, Myong Hi Kim’s career escapes linear narratives of a single theme or medium. This talk suggests the ambulant image as a key to understanding Kim’s position within the Korean diaspora, which reverberates across her oeuvre–from references to canonical works in art history, traces and translations, screens, and the insertion of the frame within a frame.
