夏至音愈会 | Summer Solstice Listening Gathering
6 – 7:30PM
On the Summer Solstice, Echos of China Ensemble and Ivy Hermit present a seasonal listening gathering inspired by Chinese musical traditions, tea culture, and contemporary listening practices.
Rooted in Chinese concepts of seasonal attunement and pentatonic modal thinking, the gathering begins with a guided sensory walk(道) through Prospect Park before unfolding into an immersive listening experience for guqin, voice, tea, and environment.
Through three cold-brew teas and a gradual movement from 徵 Zhi (Fire) to 宫 Gong (Earth), participants are invited to experience listening as a shared sensory practice—engaging not only sound, but also scent, taste, temperature, humidity, and the changing light of the longest day of the year.
This gathering is part of Music and Healing (音愈会), an ongoing seasonal series initiated by Echos of China Ensemble. Through each edition, the series explores how seasonal characteristics can be translated into frameworks for listening, gathering, and contemporary artistic practice, bringing Chinese traditional instruments into dialogue with environment, perception, and collective presence.
