Dances of Woven Water
7 – 3:30PM
The Japanese Folk Dance Institute of New York presents Dance of Woven Water, an immersive performance rooted in traditional Asian folk dance practices, drawing inspiration from coastal and maritime rituals historically performed by sailors and seaside communities.
Through veiled forms, masked figures, and fluid, wave-like movement, the work explores the relationship between the human body and water — its beauty, power, and cultural symbolism. These dances, once carried across generations, are reinterpreted for a contemporary stage while maintaining their connection to heritage and storytelling.
