Sounds of Sanctuary

Sunday, June 1, 2025
11 – 5PM

2025 What Can We Do? Awardee Florence Cecile Camacho Almeda is pleased to present Sounds of Sanctuary, an immersive audio installation of meditative soundscapes for AAPI birthworkers & birthing people at the Queens Botanical Garden.

Sounds of Sanctuary is a multi-part project that explores the intersections of sound, memory and community care for AAPI birth workers and birthing people. In the spring of 2025, artist and doula Florence led one-on-one meditation sessions for AAPI birth workers & birthing people, guiding participants in envisioning their safe, calm place. Inspired by these sessions, she produced custom meditative soundscapes to bring participants’ safe, calm places to life.

The project culminates in a one-day immersive audio installation of these soundscapes at the Queens Botanical Garden Auditorium, a listening space to connect and unwind.

This event is free with garden admission ($6 for adults, $4 for seniors/students, $2 for children 4-12, free for children under 3).

On view June 1st, 2025 from 11am-5pm.
