Shop & Taste Workshop: TOFU EDITION

Join Think!Chinatown for a guided deep-dive foodways workshop on artisanal tofu shops (Tofu 舖 pù/pou✴) in Chinatown. Browse, taste, and learn about each tofu pou’s specialties and offerings, and what makes a tofu pou unique to Manhattan Chinatown (and why Think!Chinatown designated “Artisanal Chinatown” markers for these shops and artisans!).

Participants will go on an outing to visit and shop at a tofu pou. At the Think!Chinatown Studio, you’ll all enjoy a side-by-side tasting of fresh tofu, tofu pudding, and soy milk from all the different tofu pou of Chinatown. You also get to taste other local specialty tofu and soy bean products like tofu pok and 5-spice tofu. Watch a screening of Think!Chinatown’s tofu mini-documentary and also get takeaway recipes they created with our neighborhood aunties and uncles that you can try at home.

Tickets include:

• a screening of Think!Chinatown’s tofu mini-documentary
• A shopping excursion to an artisanal Chinatown tofu pu/pou
• Extensive tasting of tofu and tofu/soy products
• Intel from the T!C team on how to level up your tofu game -A zine of tofu dish recipes and recommendations of neighborhood shops from Chinatown aunties and uncles.

NOTE: this is a taste and talk event, participants will not be cooking or partaking in food preparation.
