PERFORMING FILIPINA Presents: A Night of Filipino Cultural Resistance

Monday, October 28, 2024
6 – 8:30PM

PERFORMING FILIPINA Presents: A Night of Filipino Cultural Resistance is an event hosted by Lianah Sta. Ana (she/her), A4’s 2024 Van Lier Fellow and writer of PERFORMING FILIPINA, a new “kind of” musical. The evening constitutes Sta. Ana’s final project as part of the Van Lier Fellowship. It is a celebration of Filipino cultural workers, tying their work as artists to revolutionary movements, and aiming to deepen US Filipinos’ understanding of the role of Filipino organizations, artists, and cultural workers within the struggle for liberation.

The event will feature Dana Ysabel Dela Cruz (they/them), Bea Cañete (they/them), Ligaiya Romero (he/they), and a panel discussion facilitated by Chris Myers (he/him). The evening will also be a fundraiser for PERFORMING FILIPINA’s development with a silent auction. Light refreshments will be provided.

This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and The New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowships.

About Lianah Sta. Ana
Lianah Sta. Ana is an Asian American actor, writer, and cultural worker of Filipino descent. After making her Broadway debut at 17 years old in the revival of Miss Saigon, Lianah decided to pursue a BA in Ethnicity and Race Studies (Columbia University, ‘22) to gain a more critical understanding of the ideologies and systems enabling popular representations of historically oppressed bodies on US stages.

Her own creative work, located at the intersection of Filipina/x/o and Filipina/x/o American culture, history, and memory, combines theory and practice to empower audiences and encourage critical consciousness. She is currently developing an experimental, new “kind-of” musical titled PERFORMING FILIPINA. She was A4’s Van Lier Fellow in 2024.
