Hindsight: Live with Jay Miners, Sarah Kang, Kira Hooks & corner club

Sunday, January 24, 2021

Join Jay Miners, Sarah Kang, Kira Hooks, and corner club for an afternoon of songs, stories, and hopes for the new year.

About the Songwriters:

Jay Miners is a born and raised New York City-based indie artist. Her songwriting has been described as genuine and ethereal. Jay’s single ‘Real Love’, released in February 2020 and written about our relationships with modern-day technology, gained early support from Spotify, making its way onto playlists including Fresh Finds. Her most recent EP ‘The Art We Make’ explores her journey as a songwriter and themes of identity & coming of age.

Sarah Kang is a Korean-American jazz/soul/R&B/pop singer-songwriter based in New York City. Born in South Korea and raised in Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas, her music, much like her life experiences, crosses the borders of genre. Her inspiration comes from artists like Lianne La Havas, Bruno Major, and Corinne Bailey Rae; however, her earnest voice paired with soul sensibilities, contagious beats, and thoughtful songwriting creates a sound that is all her own. Her hope for all of her songs is that they encourage listeners to ask important questions and provide safe, cozy spaces to rest.

Kira Hooks is an LA based singer/songwriter. Her sound is reflective of the ‘Golden Age of Disney’ and Modern Soul, carrying a warmth that is nostalgic and nuanced. Kira was born in Houston, TX and grew up as a Third Culture Kid in The Netherlands, Nigeria, Scotland, and China from the age of 4. After years abroad, she sought to explore her musicality in the most thriving music scenes in the US…Los Angeles, Nashville, and NYC. Kira has collaborated with and studied under well respected musicians such as Dorian Holley (Michael Jackson), John Avila (Oingo Boingo), Kacee Clanton (Joe Cocker), Tierney Sutton (jazz vocalist), Sara Leib (jazz vocalist), and Ernie Halter (Artist). Her most recent album ‘Love AtLas(t)’, was released in May 2020.

corner club is the Manhattan-based indie-pop duo of Sav & Mike. Combining Sav’s classical composition background and poetry scribbles with Mike’s intimate acoustic and neo-soul guitar influences, their music fuses a wide palette of textures and soundscapes. Their debut EP, ‘little love lullabies,’ is set to release in February 2021.

Hosted by Hailey Savage. As the Public Programs Associate at the Museum of Chinese in America in New York, Hailey hosted over 200 public and private events inside the museum galleries. She was known for organizing and playing MC at a popular series of monthly programs called Music + Mic Nights that highlighted emerging local Asian American musicians, including Jay Miners, Sarah Kang, and corner club. Hailey also pioneered a concert series that gave ticket proceeds and creative control to invited artists. She is currently working with Jay Miners on an exciting new business, and when she is not running events in her community, Hailey enjoys writing songs as a duo with her dad.

Live on Zoom | Tickets $10 - a portion of the proceeds will benefit Asian Americans for Equality (AAENYC) and aid immigrant-owned businesses.
