Copyright or Wrong: A Guide to Copyright and Fair Use in Art

As an artist, it is essential for you to understand your rights in your creations, and what to do if you believe those rights have been violated. Whether or not art is your livelihood, you should take the steps necessary to protect your ownership rights in your work. Katie Wagner, Esq., Executive Director of the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts discusses the basics of copyright law, what it does and does not cover, and steps you can take to help prevent copyright infringement of your work. Learn about the certain circumstances where the limited, “fair use” of copyrighted material may be permitted and consider recent visual arts cases in this area.
