Aesther Chang + Chamberlain Zhang: Alchemy

Saturday, February 6, 2021
6 – 12AM

HVRMINN is pleased to present “Alchemy”, an exhibition of new paintings by Aesther Chang and a sound installation by Chamberlain Zhang at 247 Water Street in Brooklyn, New York. This exhibition marks the artists’ debut dual-presentation in the United States. We welcome you to join us for Opening Night on Saturday, February 6, 6-8PM.

Aesther Chang is known for her nuanced and subtle abstract paintings. Her works experiment with textures and colors, and the linear and ethereal qualities in form. What she seeks through the process is harmony, or in her own words “oneness between self and matter”. Made over long stretches of time with layers of natural pigments, her paintings explore the intrinsic relationship between the human spirit and organic material. Moments of free improvisation call for a turn toward meditation. Chang’s work directly invites the viewer to realize a deeper dimension within one’s very own being- a transcendental realm beyond the body and mind. To unlock this realm, one must go inward.

Chamberlain Zhang is a Chinese composer, performer, DJ and installation artist. He performed at the very special Saturday late-night program of San Francisco Tape Music Festival 2018 called “Cinema For Your Ears” by San Francisco Weekly and “Tape Capsules” by The New York Times. He was invited to perform a special concert by Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland, California dedicated to innovative planetary research and studies. His work explores the possibilities of manipulating human perception of time and space. Implementing architecture, light, fog, sound, improvisation, composition, and collaboration manifest in scenarios of alternative realties/futures by creating an immersive environment. Composing narratives from his imagination, he allows each individual to experience the works by following their own paths through person-specific imagination and physical engagement.

The gallery is open to the public with a limited number of visitors allowed into the exhibition space at a time, in accordance with city guidelines. A face mask must be worn to enter and hand sanitizer will be provided.
