The Kitchen Project is looking for artists of varying mediums to participate in “You are (not) Invited II”. The exhibit is part of an oral history project — recording in-depth oral histories of diasporic femme Asian parents, mothers, daughters, and non-binary children about their relationships to food and care. What does the space of a kitchen mean to you? How do you relate ‘Asian food’ to immigration, gender, race, or ethnicity? We welcome a wide range of interpretations of these questions.
The exhibit will take place at a gallery in NYC from April 3rd-11th. Artists are able to submit up to 3 pieces of work. The submission will close on March 1st at 11:59pm EST.
Requirements
Eligibility:
**Artists must identify themselves as diasporic femme Asian parents, mothers, daughters, or non-binary children, depending on their interpretation of this gender, race, and ethnic identity.
**Artwork of various media will be accepted — including but not limited to painting, sculpture, video, literary work, etc. Due to space constraints, we will be able to accommodate more wall works than pieces with large footprints; maximum depth for any work is 60”. If you would like to consult before submission, please contact the Kitchen Project Team.
**If you are a performance based artist interested in submitting, please reach out to us for opening party commission.
**Priority will be given to artists based in NY and NJ.
