Velvetpark is excited to host the 6th annual LGBTQ+ visual artist residency program! This year, they will be awarding an artist a 7-week live/work studio in Brooklyn, New York. They encourage artists to begin or develop a project to a complete body of work. The studio is housed within Crown Studios and residents will have the opportunity to connect with other artists in the creative profession.

They invite artists across the US working in various mediums and whom are either emerging, mid-career, or established to apply.

The residency will run from July - August 2026.

Velvetpark is a non-profit, multiplatofrm publishing company that aims to provide new opportunities to LGBTQ+ Writers and Artists.

Requirements

100 – 250 word, project proposal
– additional .pdf, docx, .doc, .jpg files and supporting materials accepted (limited to 10 mb in size)

Project Outline:
– Provide a detailed outline of what you expect to complete within your 7 week term.

Visual Artists — 10work samples
– additional works will be reviewed if provided as link to url (online portfolio, published works, etc.)
– 5mb upload limit per file
– additional works accepted via url, to online portfolio or published works

Video/performance
– video, provide url to linked works (no uploads)
– additional works accepted via url, to online portfolio or published works
(performance artists be aware of size restriction of studio before applying)

CV/Resume
– should reflect your artistic/creative accomplishments

2 references
– 1 professional reference, who can speak about your work and
– 1 personal reference, who can speak about you personally, your work ethic, values, and any other pertinent information about you.
– provide names and contact; phone/email of these individuals (letters not required).
– finalists’ references will be contacted by selection committee to speak about you.
