Seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our team. Syracuse Stage works in close partnership with the Syracuse University Department of Drama and the production department supports the professional and educational seasons. The Prop Assistant/ Carpenter position is ideal for individuals who have an interest in both management and artisan carpentry work, as time will be split between the two areas. The assistant will work closely with the Prop Supervisor to plan out builds, project manage small groups of people, update paperwork and carry out individual builds.

Ideal Candidate Skills and Education:
Candidates need(s) to have a strong knowledge of prop management and construction including:
• creating and reading construction drafting
• reading, interpreting, and building from designer drawings
• time management skills
• shopping
• prop crafts
• furniture carpentry and repair
• carving
• metal working

Strong organization, flexibility, a positive attitude and communication skills are necessary for working with professionals and students.

A degree in theatre with a prop emphasis and minimum 3 years’ experience in properties or similar field is preferred but not required. Strong consideration given to individuals with equivalent experience.

Position Dates and Salary:
Position is full-time, seasonal, non-exempt salary with guarantee of 40 hours and includes a benefit package. Position dates are approximately July 2020 through June 2021. Potential to come back in subsequent seasons. Some overtime will be required.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
Work may require routine physical exertion including working at heights, lifting 50 pounds, execution of tasks using small and large motor skills, and repetitive movements of hands and arms for long periods of time. The use of safety equipment and/or specific precautions is required, under supervision and with instruction.
