Artadia is a non-profit grantmaker and nationwide community of visual artists, curators, and patrons. We elevate the careers of artists at pivotal moments in their practice through a proven combination of recognition, grantmaking, community support, and advocacy. Cities with active grant programs include Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and the San Francisco Bay Area. It is an important time for the organization as it continues to strengthen and expand its support for artists and their communities.

Artadia seeks a full time Program & Communications Assistant based in New York to join our dedicated team. The Program & Communications Assistant will support all aspects of coordinating our two key programs, the Artadia Awards, financial grants to artists in six program cities, and the Artadia Network: a professional development program connecting artists to the greater community through workshops and meetings. Candidate will work closely with the Program staff, reporting to and assisting the organization’s Program Manager. This position is a unique opportunity to correspond, learn from, and truly support diverse and talented artists across the US. Applicants should be interested in learning about the role of program coordination in nonprofits, and in being a key part of the programmatic aspects of an arts organization.

The position will support the success of Artadia’s programs, including its annual Award cycles as well as its year-round Network programming that supports our 350+ Awardees. This person will also serve as a brand ambassador for the organization, interacting with Artadia’s stakeholders (including artists, professionals, press, general public, and other cultural partners).
Responsibilities include:

  • Administrative support for the Program Manager, primarily focusing on Artadia’s suite of programs that support artists and the communities where they live. This includes but is not limited to the Artadia Award program and Network program
  • Oversee the application software, research and expand the programmatic outreach, and create studio visit itineraries and agendas for specific programs
  • Manage all marketing and communications, which includes crafting the monthly newsletter, a quarterly newsletter for Awardees, preparing press releases, and maintaining a robust social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and online presence
  • Act as primary press liaison: assume oversight of the organization’s overall digital strategy, tracks effectiveness of communications and reports on results as needed and communicating with all press contacts and PR consultants
  • Maintain all program-related and press contacts in Artadia’s database
  • Assist with coordinating Artadia’s participation in art fairs throughout the year
  • Oversee all website updates and maintain internal office calendars with respect to programs and communications

Requirements

Interested candidates should have 2+ years of related experience in office management and arts programming at a comparably sized business, non-profit organization or arts-related environment.
Applicants should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be highly motivated, proactive, detail-oriented, and responsible. Ideal candidate will be able to correspond with external partners such as artists and members of the press in a punctual and efficient manner, while being called to share emergent or important information to fellow staff accordingly. Design skills, including basic knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign are encouraged. Candidates must have exceptional computer skills, with Mac operating systems. Artadia actively works with Dropbox, Google Docs, BaseCamp, Salesforce, MailChimp and WordPress and comparable experience with these databases/programs is helpful.

Position hours are 40 hours a week 10-6 M-F. Occasional additional hours for programs and to attend events. We are currently working a hybrid schedule of working from home and our Brooklyn office, and continue to evaluate our schedule.

Artadia is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive and equitable arts community. Applicants from populations underrepresented in the art world are strongly encouraged to apply. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, familial status, sexual orientation, national origin, ability, age, or veteran status.
