The Wilma Theater seeks someone with experience in creative community engagement, collaboration and public programs to serve as the Portable Studio Program Coordinator.

The Portable Studio’s mission is to foster greater access to and interest in the art of theater. We share The Wilma Theater’s creative practices through workshops and residencies that are inspired by Wilma productions, take place in community spaces, and engage artists and audiences in imaginative reflections on the complexities of contemporary life.

Position Summary
The Program Coordinator reports to the Portable Studio Program Director and is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operations of Portable Studio partnerships and programs taking place virtually and physically across the city of Philadelphia. They will support the Portable Studio Director in the development and implementation of mission-based public programs and initiatives that respond to audience and community needs. The Program Coordinator collaborates closely with the Program Director, independent Teaching Artists, and cross-departmentally with Wilma Theater staff to increase awareness and access to the Wilma Theater’s productions - building and stewarding authentic and equitable relationships with new audiences and our community stakeholders.

The Program Coordinator will contribute meaningfully to the organizational culture of the Wilma and will advocate to advance our values on an organizational, local, and national scale. This person will take part in cross-departmental work, company-wide EDI work and anti-bias training as the Wilma furthers its commitment to being an inclusive, anti-racist organization.

Responsibilities (50%) 

Coordinate and Schedule Portable Studio programs through regular emails and meetings addressing logistical needs and creative goals of our Community Partners, reflection and training opportunities ,as well as preparations for public performances.

Support the Portable Studio Teaching Artists by co-developing partner-specific curriculum, practices, and policies that promote equitable and innovative collaborations with Community Partners and fellow Teaching Artists, and that reflect the Wilma’s current artistic offerings.

Coordinate group experiences with the Wilma’s work physically (or virtually) and with engagement opportunities including pre-show and/or post-show conversations.

Communicate, advocate and model the values of the Wilma Theater in all public-facing programming as well as external and internal collaborations.   

Duties and Functions (10%)
Review and assess the program’s ongoing practices annually, maintaining shared-working platforms and updating practices and policies in response to ongoing needs and change.

Support and facilitate community relationships through existing ancillary programming in response to community needs and within organizational capacity.

Organizational Participation (30%) 

Attend and take notes at weekly meetings with Portable Studio Director to stay connected to the Wilma’s staff and collaborate with team members on ancillary programs related to the Wilma Theater’s season as well as Education department meetings to collaborate and uplift shared teaching models.

Collaborate with the Artistic and Education Departments to maintain equity and accessibility to artistic productions and programming curriculum
Collaborate with the Program Director, Marketing Department and Box Office to test, track and assess short and long-term engagement strategies via social media, in-person events, and off-site programming.

Co-Facilitate communication between community leaders and staff to create audience engagement programs and materials that uplift the Wilma’s commitment to accessibility, care, and anti-racism.

Professional Development (10%) 

Collaborate and participate in lectures, panels, training, conferences and focus groups for Arts and Culture as it relates to community engagement and trauma-centered practices locally, nationally, and internationally.   

Position Qualifications
The ideal candidate is proficient in remote-work software and systems, with the ability to learn our Microsoft 365, and project management and video conference tools.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt role with an annual salary of $18,000. This position is currently grant funded through July 2023, with the possibility of extended funding thereafter.

COVID-19 Update and Hybrid Work Environment
Due to Covid-19, the administrative staff of the Wilma is currently primarily working remotely. In the office, we are adhering to CDC, State and local orders regarding COVID-19. The Wilma is in the process of creating a return to office policy for 2022, which will include time onsite, with flexibility surrounding working from home, yet to be determined. This position includes traveling within Philadelphia. Some night and weekend work will be required.
