Participants/Actors wanted for a Chinese documentary play "Between Homes"

What makes a place feel like home? What is one thing you would bring with you if you had to leave? Between Homes is an original documentary theatre performance commissioned by New York Chinese Cultural Center as part of the 2026 HOME Project at Queens Museum.

They’re inviting Chinese immigrants of all ages to bring their stories, memories, and meaningful objects into a creative space. Together, through conversations, group interviews, personal objects, archival research, and live storytelling, you will explore the many ways you experience and remember home. They’re curious about what you carry with you, what you remember, and what you might discover by sharing your story with others.

Through a series of workshops and rehearsals, you will create an intimate and flexible performance designed for a museum environment. Personal stories and objects will come together in a shared space, creating opportunities for connection, reflection, and collective storytelling.

Whether you have lived in New York for decades, recently arrived, or have a complicated relationship with the idea of home, your story is welcome here.

Performance Date: November 1, 2026, 2:30–3:30 PM
Location: Queens Museum
Languages: English + Mandarin/Cantonese. Other Chinese dialects are welcome!

Introduction Workshop: September 27, 12–2 PM
Rehearsals: October 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, and 31 (4–5 hours each)
Rehearsals will be held in rehearsal studios in Manhattan.
A travel stipend will be provided.

什么让一个地方成为“家”？如果有一天你必须离开，你会带走什么？

《Between Homes》是一部由纽约中国文化中心（New York Chinese Cultural Center）委约创作的原创纪录剧场作品，将作为 2026 HOME Project 的一部分在Queens Museum 公开演出。

我们正在邀请不同年龄段的中国移民，带着自己的故事、记忆和有意义的物件，走进一个可以聊天、倾听、分享和共同创作的空间。我们会通过聊天、集体访谈、个人物件、档案研究和现场讲述，一起探索“家”对每个人意味着什么，以及我们如何记住、离开、寻找或重新建立自己的归处。我想知道：你带着什么走过生活？你记得什么？当你把自己的故事带进房间，又会和别人产生怎样的连接？

我们将共同创作一场适合在博物馆环境中呈现的亲密、灵活的表演。个人的故事与物件会在公共空间里相遇，也让不同的人生经历有机会彼此听见。

无论你已经在纽约生活了很多年，刚刚来到这里，还是一直在思考“家”究竟意味着什么——欢迎你带着故事来到这里。

演出地点： Queens Museum
语言： 英语 + 普通话 / 粤语，欢迎其他中文方言！

介绍工作坊： 9月27日 12–2 PM
排练日期： 10月4日、10日、11日、17日、18日、24日、25日、31日 （每次排练约4–5小时）
排练将在 Manhattan 的排练室进行。
项目将提供交通补贴。

Requirements

Seeking Participants:

-You don’t need to know how to perform. Just bring your curiosity, your memories, and a little piece of your world.
-Who are curious about exploring storytelling and performance in a supportive, collaborative environment.
-Are of any age. All ages are welcome!
-Can participate in the introduction workshop and all rehearsals, with 1–2 conflicts acceptable.
