Job Title:
Operations Manager, Playwrights Downtown

Reports to:
Administrative Director, Playwrights Downtown

Organizational Summary:
Playwrights Horizons is a writer’s theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary American playwrights, composers and lyricists, and to the production of their new work. Playwrights Downtown is a facility that houses Playwrights Horizons Theater School, Playwrights Rehearsal Studios and three Resident Companies.
Position Summary:
The Operations Manager supports the Playwrights Horizons Theater School facility and productions throughout the year. This position will supervise and coordinate the day-to-day maintenance and repair of Playwrights Downtown spaces and associated equipment, in addition to overseeing the production’s technical aspects.

Primary Responsibilities:

Production

Serve as technical adviser for Mainstage productions, one in the Fall, one in the Spring
Oversee load in, technical rehearsals, and strike for both student productions and Mainstage production
Manage production and labor budgets
In collaboration with the Production Coordinator serve as liaison with NYU’s production department
Hire and supervise production related staff
Oversee inventory and maintenance of all theatrical equipment and supplies
Create and maintain technical documentation and inventories
Manage the maintenance and repair of the facility
Serve as technical liaison with theater rental clients
Work collaboratively with Playwrights Uptown’s Production Manager

Facilities

Serve as liaison to the building management company and vendors
Schedule and ensure completion of preventative maintenance.
Proactively diagnose any service needs and follow through to ensure the service is completed
Oversee janitorial and carting contracted services
Manage and reorder facilities related supplies including COVID PPE
Support Studio Associates in addressing facilities issues as they arise throughout the day, including ensuring the cleanliness and comfort of all spaces
Assist Studio Associates with emptying trash, stocking restroom supplies, and monitoring temperature, when needed
Work collaboratively with Playwrights Uptown’s Building Manager
Work collaboratively with the Client Services Manager and Administrative Director in the daily operations of the rehearsal studios

Experience Requirements:
Minimum 3-5 years of practical experience working in technical theater
A thorough knowledge of materials, tools, and theatrical equipment
Broad understanding in all aspects of technical theater including carpentry, lighting, sound, and projections
Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and perform manual labor as needed
Ability to read and produce technical drawings in VectorWorks
High professional standards with acute attention to details
Night and weekend hours required
Two or more years of facilities experience
Ability to troubleshoot basic plumbing, electrical, AC issues
Proficient using computers and apps
Customer Service experience a plus
Highly motivated self starter
Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
Ability to interact with diverse populations, including undergraduate aged students and a wide variety of rental clients
Proficiency in Spanish, a plus
Criminal Background Check will be required

Salary: $58,500
