Casting for “Running Lines,” a short film that films August 13–16, 2026 in New Jersey.

Storyline: Sean, a gender-questioning Chinese-American boy, rehearses Romeo and Juliet with his uncompromising mother—concealing that he’s been cast as Juliet, not Romeo. By emulating her, he learns how to be Juliet, and how to be a woman.

Transportation will be provided for NYC-based actors.

They are looking for Chinese American actors to portray both Sean and Jenny, his mother.

Sean Chen (18–23) Chinese American male-presenting, to play 16 — Earnest, artistic, passionate, a bit naive. Lanky, hasn’t fully grown into their body.

  • Genderqueer/nonbinary preferred
  • Shakespeare experience encouraged but not required

Jenny Chen (40s or 50s) Chinese American female — A former stage actress. Stoic, calculating. A mother who pushes her child to be the best version of himself he can be.

  • Native English speakers preferred
  • Shakespeare experience strongly encouraged

All levels of acting experience are welcome to apply! Must be available for the shooting dates of August 13–16, 2026.
