Sunnyside Rhythm Block 2027: Open Call for Performers, Sound & Participatory Art

Sunnyside Rhythm Block (SRB) is a free outdoor public art and performance series returning to Sunnyside, Queens for four weekends in April and May 2027. Presented by Korea Art Forum and curated and organized by gong, SRB transforms 46th Street beneath the Sunnyside Arch into a shared stage for art, sound, cultural exchange, and neighborhood gathering.

Building on its 2026 edition, SRB brings traditional and contemporary practices into conversation through live performance, DJ and sound programs, participatory art, and community-centered cultural programming.

For 2027, they invite artists, performers, DJs, sound artists, collectives, and cultural practitioners to propose programs that can engage families, neighbors, and passersby in an outdoor public setting.

They especially welcome proposals rooted in AAPI cultural practices, diasporic experiences, cross-cultural collaboration, and new interpretations of living traditions.

Selected proposals may be presented as standalone programs or integrated into one of four weekend activations. Exact program dates and compensation will be discussed with selected participants based on scope, duration, production needs, and available funding.

There is no application fee.

Requirements

• Open to individual artists, performers, DJs, sound artists, collectives, and cultural practitioners.
• Applicants must be available to present their proposed program in person in Sunnyside, Queens during April or May 2027.
• Proposals should fall within at least one of the following categories: live performance, DJ or sound, participatory art, or cultural programming.
• Programs should be suitable for an outdoor public setting and accessible to families, neighborhood residents, and passersby.
• Applicants must provide a brief proposal, estimated program length, technical and spatial requirements, work samples, and a CV or résumé.
• Applicants will be asked to indicate their availability and expected artist fee.
• Proposals engaging AAPI cultures and communities are especially encouraged, but the open call is not limited by cultural background.
