NYC Casting Call - Musicians, Vocalists, and Dancers for Staged Band Performance

Performa is casting 8 performers (ages 18–30) for a new staged band project by visual artist Diane Severin Nguyen. This is a live performance centered around a 1960s/70s–era rock/folk band, blending music, movement, and visual staging within a larger performance art work. Performers selected will begin rehearsals in June for a world premiere performance in November as part of the Performa 2025 Biennial, co-commissioned by the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA).

This is a performance-based project. Performers must be comfortable working in an ensemble. Looking for strong musicians and performers who are open to experimentation and working across disciplines.

Seeking the following roles:

Musicians - 5 performers, ages 18-30

• Guitarist
• Bassist
• Drummer
  
• Keyboardist
  
• Vocalist (female only)

Female Singer/Dancer and Triple Threat Performers – 3 performers, ages 18-30
Individuals and Trio Performance Troupes

Requirements

• Musicians must be experienced in performing live (rock, folk, pop, or adjacent genres), have a high skill level with at least one instrument, be able to learn quickly by ear, and have a strong onstage presence (comfort with acting).
• Singing ability is preferred but not required.
• Female Singer/Dancer and Triple Threat Performers must be confident singers (solo and harmony) and excellent dancers with experience in choreography.
• Seeking both individuals and pre-established trio performance troupes.
• Skill level with at least one instrument is a plus.
  

Application Instructions

Musicians: Performing (singing, playing, or both) any song of your choosing.

Female Singer/Dancers: Performing (singing, or singing and playing) with a short piece of choreography or improvised movement. For pre-established trios, please submit one video as a group.

Video/audio files can be sent as attachments or as downloadable/streaming links on youtube/Vimeo. Please describe your instrument(s), vocal range, and movement/choreographic experience. Additional audio files and reels are welcome. Please include a short bio or resume.

In the email, confirm your availability for rehearsals June-November in NYC with your general weekly availability and any significant conflicts.
