The Artists of Color Council (AoCC) at Movement Research is seeking two artists to join the cohort as Core members starting in July of 2026 through June 2027 with the option to extend for an additional year given participation requirements are met.
AoCC Core Members are the driving force for ideating programs and initiatives to support movement based artists of color. Through monthly meetings the council discuss current events, landscape of the field, and emerging trends that may inform what kinds of programs would best support the community.
Core Members may have the following opportunities (contingent on the state of MR/AoCC programming):
- Co-curate an AoCC Night of Movement Research at the Judson Church
- Participate in the selection process for AoCC Pilot Workshops
- Nominate a facilitator or facilitate a AoCC Writing Rehearsal
- Facilitate a workshop at MR Studios
- Organize a MR Studies Project or Organize a MR Reading Group
- Develop new/original programming initiatives for AoCC
Additional opportunities my present themselves over the course of participation.
Payment: Core Members are paid per monthly meeting attended at $25 per hour ($50 per meeting)
Requirements
Requirements:
- Attend a minimum of six AoCC monthly meetings, held virtually, on the second Saturday of every month from 12:30pm–2:30pm EST
- Participate in meeting discussion and be active in the democratic decision making process
- Core Members are highly encouraged to attend AoCC & MR Programming
Qualifications:
- Self-identifying Artists of Color
- Primary residence in the greater New York City area
- Understanding of the NYC dance community and professional environment
- Willingness to discuss and engage in community support and action around political topics related to artists of color.
