GIBNEY’S MOVING TOWARD JUSTICE (MTJ) PROGRAMS CULTIVATE SPACES FOR ‘ARTIST ENTREPRENEURS’ TO BUILD SKILLS AND FOSTER DIALOGUE AND EXCHANGE AT THE INTERSECTION OF ARTS AND SOCIAL ACTION.

Piloting fresh iterations this spring 2022, MTJ is now a multi-prong, process-based program braiding together Gibney Company, Center and Community Action philosophies and tools. In addition to ongoing MTJ Fellowship projects which our resident Gibney Company Artistic Associates engage with as part of their full-time positions, the MTJ name will also encompass trainings offered by Gibney Company as a portion of their touring activities, and a curriculum-based program piloted virtually this coming spring.

MTJ programs hold space for the exploration of ‘new choreographies’ at play in social and interpersonal justice, facilitate messy conversations across difference, and embrace the fractal nature of transformation – body, mind and spirit. While expanding the definition of ‘community’ to include those we engage with every day, we’ll crowdsource tools from many thought partners toward responding to our constantly shifting world in embodied ways both inside and outside the studio.

PILOT PROGRAM
APRIL 7 – MAY 26

Stewarded by Gibney’s new Director of Engagement Amy Miller, the spring 2022 pilot training offers seven sessions welcoming such social change catalysts as Nigel Campbell, Gina Gibney, Kevin Gotkin and Kayhan Irani to share their histories, expertise, questions and hopes for the present and the future.
