Major Gifts Manager

The Major Gifts Manager will be an integral member of the staff at Classic Stage Company (CSC), an award-winning Off-Broadway theater company committed to reimagining classic stories for contemporary audiences. This position supports the Director of Development with a focus on individual donors and is responsible for personally managing a portfolio of major donors and prospects with a focus on leadership and multi-year gifts. The Major Gifts Manager will also manage CSC’s Corporate Giving program and will cultivate Corporate donors and prospects. The successful candidate will play an integral role in creating plans for the stewardship and solicitation of donors. This new role will be a key ambassador of CSC’s mission and will serve as one of CSC’s most valuable front-facing team members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a portfolio of individual donors, major gift donors, and prospects, for relationship-building and gift cultivation with the goal of deepening their engagement with CSC and increasing their giving
  • Research Major Gift prospects and identify new donors to CSC
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of a new Major Gifts membership program
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Development and Individual Giving & Special Events Associate on creating a robust moves management system and pipeline, and manage the donor portfolio system for Development staff and the Producing Artistic Director
  • Collaborate with Director of Development on Major Gift strategy and Board prospect pipeline
  • Create new cultivation and benefit events in collaboration with the Individual Giving & Special Events Associate with the goal of creating targeted cultivation and stewardship opportunities
  • Work closely with Director of Development and Development Committee on identifying and soliciting Corporate donor prospects, and implementing a Corporate Giving program
  • Assist individual Board Members in identifying donor prospects and developing personalized solicitation and cultivation touch points
  • Work with the Director of Development and the Producing Artistic Director on developing special project, production support, and other funding opportunities, including campaign planning
  • Attend and assist at special events and cultivation events
  • Maintain donor records

KEY EXPECTATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED:

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with colleagues and with donors
  • Collaborative spirit, adaptable, and a committed team member
  • At least four year’s administrative experience; Individual Giving and/or Major Gifts experience is a plus
  • Proven ability to solicit and close gifts from individual donors
  • Strong analytical and research skills to identify potential donors
  • Highly organized, with exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and database/CRM experience
  • Passion for the arts’ and theater’s role in the community
  • Active knowledge of New York City philanthropic and cultural communities
  • Experience working with a not-for-profit Board

Reporting to the Director of Development, this is an exempt, full time position and additional hours will be required seasonally, largely dependent upon programming at the theater, including evenings and weekends for special events. Annual salary of $70,000 plus health insurance (medical, dental, vision).

The intended starting date for this position is September 13, 2022.
