Lecturer in Production Management

The School of Theatre and Dance in the College of the Arts seeks a new, non-tenure accruing Lecturer in Production Management to join an existing faculty member in the development of a Faculty Production Management Team. This team will work closely with the School Director and additional faculty and staff in managing a vibrant educational performance season and will simultaneously collaborate in coordinating the stage management curriculum. The School’s season has historically included 7 theatre productions, 3 dance productions, and 2-4 lightly produced student showcases over a 12-month production calendar. The Faculty Production Management Team will oversee the realization of all productions, ensuring that the size and scope of each process can be executed with available budget, labor, facilities, and schedule. The Lecturer in Production Management will be an effective educator, who balances the demands of production with pedagogical realities and navigates difficult conversations to resolve conflict.

The School seeks a collaborator to help us in creating sustainable production practices and identifying areas where we can respond effectively to these urgent developments in the field.
Responsibilities:

• Teach 1-2 courses per semester, including practicum courses
• Mentor student stage managers
• Embed principles of Access, Equity, and Inclusion in all aspects of production processes
• Respond to the changing needs of multiple productions simultaneously, effectively analyzing and prioritizing the ideas of numerous stakeholders
• Collaborate as part of a Faculty Production Management Team in the realization of all productions and facilitate design and production processes. This includes but is not limited to: o Determining the appropriate scope of multiple productions in relationship to total resources (e.g. budget, calendar, shop labor) o Navigating complex channels of communication between faculty design mentors, faculty and staff production/technology specialists, faculty choreographers and directors, guest artists, students in design and production roles, and student performers o Managing production meetings and technical rehearsals o Communicating with and facilitating collaboration between shops
• Develop curriculum relevant to area of specialization and in relationship to needs of the School
• Serve on School, College, and University committees as assigned.

SCHOOL OF THEATRE + DANCE: The light-filled, state-of-the-art Nadine McGuire Theatre and Dance Pavilion is home to the School of Theatre + Dance (SoTD). The School’s international full-time faculty of 33 recognized artists and researchers, complemented by adjunct and guest faculty and staff, including full- and part-time professionals. The School offers MFA curricula in acting and in design/technology, which includes scene design, lighting design and costume technology; BFA programs in acting, musical theatre, scene design, lighting design and costume design; and a BA in general theatre, including specializations in Stage Management and Theatre Management. The School features two degree programs in dance designed to develop the individual voice of the dance artist, a BFA and a BA. Over 250 students major in the artistically diverse curricula of the School of Theatre + Dance. Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: MFA (or equivalent professional experience) in production management, stage management, or closely related field. Evidence of success in promoting an environment that advances access, equity, and inclusion.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will bring to the position:

• Three or more years as a production manager in a professional setting
• Experience teaching at the university level
• Demonstrated capacity to manage change processes and revise systems to improve effectiveness, quality, and safety
• Demonstrated success working toward structural and strategic change in support of antiracism and access, equity, and inclusion
• Demonstrated commitment to education as a vehicle for personal and social transformation
• Experience in managing strategic improvements to theatre facilities
• Strong organizational, management, and communication skills
