The program in Theater Arts at MIT seeks candidates for up to three full-time Lecturers to join its interdisciplinary program in performance practice. Lecturers teach six courses per year, which may include Introduction to Acting, Motion Theater, Acting Techniques and Styles, Voice and Speech, and other performance-related course offerings such as Acting with Cameras, Fundamentals of Directing, Performance Media, or Script Analysis. Lecturers may also mentor independent student projects, direct and/or facilitate student productions and workshops, and are encouraged broadly to participate in the ongoing development of new course offerings, and in evolving new artistic, social, and scholarly initiatives.

Requirements

MFA, PhD, and/or extensive and equivalent professional experience required. Minimum two years experience teaching in higher education or conservatory environments and/or extensive instructional experience in alternative settings. The program in Theater Arts is as committed to new works as to new ways of working. Artist-educators are supported in bringing culture-conscious, collaborative, and flexible approaches to fostering inclusive classroom, production, and studio environments. As expansive practitioners in performance, candidates with a fluency in multiple traditions, techniques, and approaches to contemporary performance practices are especially sought. Other areas of valued expertise may include approaches to performance that center social justice, alternative dramaturgies, playwriting, choreography, dance and dance theater, live art performance, music theater, interactive design, etc.
